Als anys 80, el grup anglès amb arrels irlandeses The Pogues van editar un seguit de discos on, des d'una actitud punk, feien música aproximadament tradicional irlandesa. Van tenir una breu durada per culpa de l'alcoholisme del seu líder, Shane McGowan, però ens van deixar grans discos.
