Ask the Pebble

While they are searching for food for the flock, Nils and Gorgo discover a hidden store of food and wonder whether they should take it or not. In order to decide, Nils flips a pebble and chance decides that they can take the food. Akka does not like this method of deciding. Choices should be made through common sense not by chance as this can lead them to take ill-considered risks. The flock does not listen to Akka, saying that she has already nearly put the flock in danger several times with her common-sense approach. The geese now flip the pebble for every decision. Akka, who thinks the flock is heading straight for a predator, tries to warn them. When she attempts to prove her point, she finds herself threatened by a hungry wolverine. To save her, Nils uses the stone again, this time to make the wolverine face his own difficult choices¿
