Through a Girl's Eyes. The Diary of Encarnació Martorell

A true story from Spain's past related by eyewitnesses

This documentary recreates the experiences of a 12-year-old girl during the Spanish Civil War. The story is based on an unpublished diary kept by Encarnació Martorell, who is now 83. "Through a Girl's Eyes" is a universal story about childhood, war and hope.

The diary format traces the course of the Civil War from the day Franco rebelled against the government to the fall of Barcelona. It shows Encarnació's views and feelings on the war and on the daily unfolding of events. Viewers see what her life was like before the uprising and how she learnt of the outbreak of war. They also get an insight into how she felt about the violence, the daily events, the "good guys" and the "bad guys", acquaintances who went to the front, the changes in her life, and what her hopes and dreams for the future were at the time.
