Barcelona Neutral City

An ill-fated love story set in a city ravaged by the First World War

The First World War has just broken out when a group of young people find themselves at the Barcelona port waiting to board a ship that will never sail.
Karl is an architect from a well-to-do family, who feels trapped in his life and is looking for a way out; Gloria is a syndicalist whose head is full of lofty ideals; Sebastià and his wife Caterina are young farmers; Cinto, an unscrupulous hustler who knows no limits; and Maria dreams of becoming a music hall queen.
The long night draws the group into a friendship that will last throughout the war, but for Karl and Gloria, friendship soon turns into a passionate love that catches them both unawares and shakes them to their very roots.
It won't be long before they realize that the differences and hostilities dividing their worlds are practically insurmountable. Karl's father is a prominent Catalan politician while Gloria's father, an anarchist, has been tried for attacking the public order and sentenced to death. Society's delicate balance hangs on a thread. The whole world is changing before everyone's eyes and a bleak future seems to lie ahead.
During these turbulent years, marked by intrigue and war, only young lovers dare to dream of a better future, but Karl and Gloria soon discover that there is a high price to be paid for happiness.
