Ravell, a former police officer, though now retired, remains obsessed by the Grau case. Some years earlier he was given early retirement, just as he was about to close in on Fèlix Grau, an evil sort though on the surface an apparently nice man and respectable citizen— trafficking in human organs.
The unexpected death of businessman Eric Vilaplana's eight-year-old son, Gerard, offers Ravell the chance to reopen the Grau case.
