Innocent Children: Lives of Hell

A reflection on the subject of impunity

"Polio, A Chronicle of Negligence", "Give me Back my Child", and "The Institutions of Fear" are three investigative documentaries that bring to the fore the true horrors suffered by children during the years of the Franco dictatorship.

Some children—silenced, defenseless victims—were separated from their mothers for political or moral reasons, and suffered sexual and physical abuse and lack of proper health treatment. Others were sold as slaves or used for medical experiments. Now, as adults, they have yet to see their tormentors brought to justice, or receive any compensation from the State, as has been the case in other countries.

These impeccably conceived and produced journalistic reports give voice to the victims and allow events and experiences, hitherto silenced, to come to light. Viewers cannot help but feel the emotional impact of the personal stories told, which is further reinforced through fictional recreations of events as described by some of the protagonists.

Pain, rage, and indignation in the face of the buried silence: a trilogy worthy of serious reflection.

All three reports, broadcast in prime time, were audience leaders in their slots.
