Catalonia: A Foreign Affair

Is Catalonia a Spanish internal affair or a conflict which will decisively mark Europe?.

The answer from Europe has always been the same: it's a Spanish internal affair. The European Union has regarded the Catalan process as an issue to be solved within the Spanish State framework. Until the 1st of October images about the police repression reached the world over. "Catalonia: Foreign affair" is looking for answers in the international map: the former Prime Minister of Slovenia, the vice-president of the European People's Party or the President of the Green Party. In the corridors of the Strasbourg Parliament it has been a hefty conversation piece and a cause for worry. Carles Puigdemont has taken the conflict to Brussels, the heart of the European institutions.

Has the European Union set some red lines? Can there be an international negotiation? How does a mediation process work? Meanwhile, in Catalonia, the facts are frenetic: eight members of the Catalan government have been jailed, people are protesting in the streets, a general strike. All of which before the eyes of the international press. A team from TV3-Televisió de Catalunya has followed the latest events from a privileged position and has looked for explanations in the international scene. These are key days which keep on marking the History of Catalonia.
